Ingredients

The Basics:

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 bag Frozen tater tots (about 32 oz)
  • 1 can Cream of mushroom soup - (10.5 oz)
  • 1–2 cups Shredded cheese - cheddar or your choice
  • 1–1½ cups Frozen mixed vegetables - no need to thaw
  • 1 Onion - diced
  • Salt and pepper - to taste

Makes It Better:

  • ½ cup Sour cream - optional
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 2–3 tablespoon Milk or broth - only if mixture is too thick
  • ½–1 cup Extra cheese - for topping

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add diced onion and cook until soft. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Drain the grease.
    Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground beef in the hot skillet until completely browned and crumbly, 7 to 10 minutes. Stir in condensed soup; season with salt and black pepper.
  • Stir in cream of mushroom soup, frozen vegetables, and sour cream (if using). Add a splash of milk or broth if the mixture seems too thick.
  • Let the mixture cool for about 10 minutes to prevent soggy tots.
  • Spread meat mixture into a greased 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle with shredded cheese. Poke holes in the frozen tater tots and arrange them evenly on top.
    Transfer beef mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish; layer tater tots evenly on top and sprinkle with Cheddar cheese.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30–35 minutes, until tots are golden and crispy. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
    Bake in the preheated oven until tater tots are golden brown and hot, 30 to 45 minutes.
